Planning vehicle checks before a longer trip

Leave time to deal with a concern before departure instead of discovering it while packing the car.

Contact MK Mechanics to confirm current availability and arrangements.

Start with the handbook

Use the vehicle’s own maintenance information for check intervals, pressures and fluid specifications. GOV.UK points drivers to the handbook for many routine checks and service timing. Make a short list of anything overdue or unclear and ask a qualified professional about it. Do not replace the manufacturer’s instructions with a universal checklist copied from a different vehicle.

Look at the practical arrangements

Check that your travel plan leaves time for an inspection, obtaining parts or changing transport if a problem is found. Note how the vehicle will be loaded and whether a manufacturer-specific loading setting needs checking. Gather the documents and contact details you may need during the trip. This is planning, not proof that the vehicle will remain fault-free.

Deal with existing concerns first

Write down an unfamiliar noise, warning message, leak or change in behaviour and when it began. Do not treat a warning as unimportant simply because the car completed yesterday’s journey. Ask whether the vehicle needs assessment before travel, and avoid driving if it may be unsafe. No online guide can clear an individual vehicle for a long journey.

Make the enquiry specific

Tell MK Mechanics the vehicle, departure date, current concern and location. Ask what assessment or maintenance can be arranged, what it includes and whether another provider or workshop would be more appropriate. Confirm an appointment rather than relying on a sent message. If the deadline cannot be met, plan an alternative; a practical travel decision is better than expecting an unconfirmed repair or inspection to fit around departure.
